Distichiasis is a genetically linked eye disorder that continues to plague Cocker Spaniels, is caused when some of the dog's eyelashes grow incorrectly and come into contact with the cornea.  Distichiasis can cause squinting, excessive tearing, and inflammation.  Electrolysis may be a temporary solution, surgery is usually required to correct the condition permanently.
